Melanotan 2 (MT-II)

Melanotan 2 is a synthetic lactam-cyclic heptapeptide analogue of the peptide hormone alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). It was developed at the University of Arizona during structure-activity work on alpha-MSH analogues. It is the parent structure from which bremelanotide (PT-141) was later derived.

Regulatory status in Canada
Melanotan 2 is not an authorized drug in Canada and carries no Drug Identification Number. Health Canada’s April 2026 advisory on unauthorized injectable peptide drugs sold online names melanotan I and melanotan II among the products it has seized, and warns that unauthorized products of this kind may contain contaminants including solvents, heavy metals, particulates and microbial material.
